Falstaff Wine Guide Italy 2026

The history of the Popphof goes back more than 400 years, with evidence of wine being pressed here as early as 1592. The Merz family has run the estate continuously since 1772. Katharina Merz has been in charge of the vineyard and cellar for three years now. The focus is on very environmentally friendly work in the vineyard and on the typicality of the provenance of the wines. Just 25,000 bottles are produced here, which are still labelled with the historic label that is over a hundred years old. Lagrein is a particular speciality of the winery.
