Christian Tschida's dream was big: emotional wines with character that are second to none, that touch the heart - both inside and out. All he had to do was free his mind from predetermined concepts of winemaking. "If you have confidence in your product, you can be extreme and uncompromising. I have to be able to primarily assume that something good and positive will emerge when I let go of the reins," he explains.
And yet, the taste is clearly defined by the vineyard. This is of great importance to him, as Christian Tschida is lucky enough to work with fantastic vineyards on the steepest slopes of Burgenland, high above Purbach - for him, on the better side of Lake Neusiedl. "I believe very strongly in a healthy, perhaps even romanticised relationship between vineyard, nature and man," he explains. The resulting grapes are incredibly intense and refined in taste, packed with energy and completely free of esotericism. In every vintage there is always a new nuance, a new seductive game.
Over the years, he has found and refined his style. The profile of his wines is so sharpened and terroir-driven that hardly anyone orders a bottle from him by chance. Basically, however, he makes wine for every nice person on the planet - it just doesn't quite add up in terms of quantity.
