Terroir al Limit

Falstaff Online Österreich 2023

It cannot be said often enough that the Priorat exerts an almost magical attraction on wine nerds from abroad. This was also the case for Dominik Huber from Munich. He actually studied economics in Munich and Madrid, among other places, but it was precisely his time in Spain that seduced him to the wines of the country, and in particular to those of Priorat. He was able to gain his first experience in the 1990s through internships at top wineries in the region, such as Mas Martinet and Cims de Porrera. At the latter, he also met the South African winemaking icon Eben Sadie, and the dream of owning his own winery in Priorat gradually took off. In 2001, the two were still pressing their own wines in a corner of the Cims de Porrera cellar. In 2003, the time had come for Terroir al Limit to move into its own winery building, and with "Arbossar", and a little later "Torroja" and "Les Manyes", the first own wines found their way onto the tables of connoisseurs, with considerable success, especially in international gastronomy. Gradually, first-class vineyards were also acquired, above all with very old vines and, at around 800 meters, at a particularly high and cool altitude. They are planted primarily with Cariñena and Garnacha. However, Dominik Huber and Eben Sadie took a different approach. The wines should be elegant, rather lean and racy and less full-bodied than usual in the region. This gave them an exceptional position, as this almost Burgundian character was not only excitingly new, but also served as a model for subsequent generations of winemakers. In 2012, Eben Sadie left Terroir al Limit and Dominik Huber began converting to biodynamic viticulture. The wines are still unusual and original, incomparable in their style to the otherwise predominant style here. And as they are excellent accompaniments to food, these bottles are particularly popular with national and international restaurants.
