Managing directors Alfred and Franz Pierer are investing in the future of their hotel at 1,237 meters above sea level, taking another step toward a sustainable lifestyle.
The Pierer family's Almwellness Hotel has already undergone a number of changes during its 130 years of existence. It all started with a small alpine inn on the Teichalm in Styria, which was originally founded as a hostel for hikers. In the meantime, the hotel has been transformed into a 4-star superior hotel. "We want to respond to current developments in society and thus to the needs and wishes of guests who prioritize a conscious and healthy lifestyle," says Managing Director Alfred Pierer about the hotel's constant transformation.
The A.L.M. method of the Hotel Pierer combines everything that stands for genuine well-being: authentic encounters, regional roots and conscious experience. It's important to Pierer to offer more than just classic wellness, but a holistic health concept.
The new strategic direction and the investments in the in-house A.L.M. Refugium are intended to further underpin the hotel's position as a model business, explains Franz Pierer: "For us, indulgence and a focus on health go hand in hand. We don't see this as a contradiction that goes hand in hand with sacrifice, but rather as a complement and holistic enhancement of our offering."
The hotel's activity program has also been expanded. Guests have the opportunity to take part in up to seven sessions - be it a guided hike, yoga or meditation. The in-house Pierer product line offers home-made delicacies such as alpine herb pesto, Teichalm Sauvignon sparkling wine and an aromatic range of teas.
In addition, the 5000 square meter A.L.M. Refugium was expanded and renovated. The indoor panorama pool, for example, has been extended to include lounger niches and an ice shower with Kneipp course provides a refreshing kick.
The commitment of the family and the entire team is constantly being recognized: For example, the hotel has been awarded 96 points in the Falstaff Hotel Guide 2025 and three forks in the Falstaff Restaurant and Inn Guide 2023-25, which it has received three times in a row.
