The top chef presents his favorite version of this incredibly quick and easy side dish on social media.

Once Gordon Ramsay starts revealing his tricks, it almost seems as if he can't stop: Once again, the celebrity cchef recently shared some of his tips on social media, showing his followers just how quick and easy pickling really can be. "When say quick pickling, I mean that it's so easy to do," he explains in a TikTok video on his official channel.

His favorite vegetable? Daikon – a long, white radish that is a favorite in many Asian cuisines. It is mild, slightly sweet and has a serene crunch. The radish is also considered to be particularly versatile – one of the reasons why Ramsay swears by it.

Quick and easy

The top chef shows that the preparation itself requires just a few simple steps: Peel the daikon until the outer layer is removed and then shred with a box grater. Place the grated radish in a bowl, sprinkle with a handful of granulated sugar, add a dash of white wine vinegar and mix everything loosely with your hands. Then simply leave the daikon to marinate overnight.

The next morning, the vinegar has worked its magic and pickled the daikon without losing its crunchiness. As Ramsay assures us, the sugar does not make the pickles too sweet. On the contrary, it balances out the acidity of the vinegar nicely and brings out the peppery and slightly earthy note of the daikon. And what are the best dishes to pair it with? The top chef also has a recommendation for this: on rice or with grilled fish, or as a relish in a sandwich.
