In the footsteps of James Bond: filming locations from "No Time to Die"

Destinations

Bond, James Bond finally returns to cinema screens on September 30 after several postponements. Daniel Craig will play the polyglot agent for the last time. Where 007 goes in his 25th adventure:

Daniel Craig alias James Bond would have had "No time to die" back in April 2020. However, the last adventure with Craig in the lead role of the British secret agent was repeatedly postponed due to the coronavirus. On September 30, the time has finally come: "No Time to Die" celebrates its premiere.

In addition to action, a Bond girl, the obligatory villain and the specification of his name and favorite cocktail recipe, one other detail in the Bondverse remains the same: Bond, James Bond is a globetrotter. His latest adventure also takes him around the world. Filming took place not only in studios, but also in the Caribbean, Norway, the Faroe Islands and Italy. These are the most beautiful James Bond filming locations from "No Time to Die" and some exciting facts:

Caribbean: Fleming Villa

The official filming began on April 28, 2019 in the Caribbean. The film location included the Fleming Villa on the north coast of Jamaica. The property, which the writer and Bond inventor called "Goldeneye", served as his refuge from the inhospitable London winter from 1946 to 1964. It was here that Fleming wrote his spy thrillers, undisturbed by his wife and child, who had to stay at home in England. Around the villa, however, an exclusive vacation home complex was built, "Goldeneye", where you can buy a home from around 1.4 million dollars - with stars as neighbors on top of the Caribbean paradise. Sting, for example, wrote his hit "Every Breath You Take" here. Those who wish can reside in the Fleming Villa, with prices starting at 5,350 euros per room and night. The original desks at which Fleming wrote all 14 Bond books have been preserved. If you want, you can become an author yourself here. By the way: when he had written 2,500 words, Fleming rewarded himself with a drink. Shaken, not stirred.

Norway: Storseisund Bridge

In the latest Bond adventure, the agent has actually given up his license to kill. He enjoys a kind of retirement in the Caribbean. But when a friend of his at the CIA asks for his help in finding a missing scientist, Bond, James Bond, slips back into his suit, gets into fast cars and chases the villain Franz Oberhauser (Christoph Waltz) around the world. In the process, he also goes to Norway. And over the world-famous Storseisund Bridge. It is the longest of the eight bridges along the Atlantic Road, 260 meters long, has its own information center, a parking lot and a shop.

Italy: Matera, Sapri & Gravina

In the list of James Bond filming locations, Italy - once again - plays a pioneering role. With Gravina (Apulia), Sapri (Campania) and Matera (Basilicata), three Italian communities were given the go-ahead. Matera, known for its beautiful old town, was the setting for a motorcycle chase with Craig lookalike Paul Edwards. Side note: because the risk of slipping on the cobblestones was so high, a sticky aid was used. 32,000 liters of Coca-Cola worth 60,000 euros were poured onto the streets. Apart from the Bond filming, Matera is best known for its Sassi, the ancient cave settlements in the old town. These have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. In Gravina, 23 km away, 800 extras were used. In one scene, 007 dangles from the 37-metre-high aqueduct, the landmark of the ancient town.

London: University of London

Whitehall, the famous street in the government district of Westminster, and Senate House at the University of London are just two of the James Bond filming locations in the British capital. No wonder, as this is the headquarters of MI6. London plays a role in almost every Bond thriller, apart from "You Only Live Twice" (1967). "Spectre", Craig's fourth appearance as James Bond, for example, begins in an apartment in Notting Hill and reaches its climax during a breathtaking chase through Admiralty Arch and over Westminster Bridge. The MI6 building is reduced to rubble in "Skyfall" (2012) and "The World is not Enough" (1999). The Langham, London served as the backdrop for Pierce Brosnan in "Golden Eye" in 1995.

Scotland: Highlands

It has been known since "Skyfall" at the latest where Bond's childhood home ("Skyfall") once stood. Namely in the Scottish Highlands. Filming for "No Time to Die" also took place here. More precisely, around the listed, baronial-style Ardvikie House. As there is not much around it apart from nature and sheep, accommodation was set up for the crew in nearby Aviemore. The landscape of the Cairngorm Nature Park also served as a backdrop.

Faroe Islands: Kalsoy Island

There were no actors at all during the filming on the Faroe Islands. Breathtaking landscapes of vast, green meadows and cliffs surrounded by the sea on the Faroe island of Kelsoy are part of the cinematic epic. With a running time of 2 hours and 43 minutes, the latest Bond film is the longest to date. The shortest was "Quantum of Solace". It lasted just 1 hour and 46 minutes. If you watch all 24 Bond movies that have been released so far, you will have spent 50 hours and 42 minutes. And another record: Daniel Craig reportedly received a fee of 58 million euros for his last Bond appearance.
