Köttbullar on a Stick: IKEA and Chupa Chups Launch Vegan Lollipop
What began as an April Fool’s joke has become reality. Swedish furniture giant IKEA is introducing a lollipop with the flavor of its famous Köttbullar in its stores.
Originally intended as a playful April Fool’s prank, the idea proved so popular that IKEA decided to make it happen together with Chupa Chups. Starting in June, they will release a limited-edition lollipop in one hundred IKEA stores worldwide. The lollipop is inspired by Swedish meatballs—Köttbullar—and their classic accompaniment, lingonberry sauce.
Chupa Chups developed the recipe for the sweet. The result is a vegan lollipop that captures the flavor of the Swedish classic, complemented by a hint of lingonberry—yet made entirely without animal ingredients. “On April 1st, we invited people to imagine a meatball lollipop. We simply couldn’t resist taking the idea one step further, especially after the enthusiastic response,” says Javier Quiñones of the Ingka Group.
A total of one million lollipops have been produced and distributed to IKEA stores worldwide. However, they will not be sold. Instead, they will be handed out to customers as part of a free sampling campaign. In
