How to buy your own island at an auction
Many vacation-hungry people probably can't believe their eyes, but it's really true! It is now possible to buy your own island in the Maldives at auction. The government of the luxurious vacation destination wants to boost tourism again. Whoever gets hold of one of the islands can lease the island for 50 years and live in paradise.
For an uninhabited island with a size of around 1.2 hectares, you are well off with a capital of 210,000 dollars, the equivalent of around 173,000 euros. However, if you are aiming for a larger paradise, you can buy a 10.4 hectare island at auction for around 1.2 million euros.
The catch
But there is one thing you have to do when you buy one of the 16 islands at auction: the tenants must have a Hotel with at least 100 beds and show great consideration for the ecosystem and vegetation.
