Lesehof Stagård is not about trends, but about provenance, character and consistency. Urban T. Stagård has been shaping the traditional Kremstal winery with a clear signature since 2008. The conversion to organic farming began in 2006, and the estate has been officially certified as a biodynamic winery since 2020 - driven by the conviction that great wines can only be produced in harmony with nature.
The barren primary rock soils, the cool microclimate and the late ripening in the western Kremstal provide the ideal environment for his passion: Riesling. With over 60 percent of the cultivated area, this grape variety plays a central role. Not only because of its expressiveness, but also because it reflects the terroir in subtle nuances like no other.
Spontaneous fermentation, extended maceration periods, long ageing on the lees: in the cellar, we work with time, patience and minimal intervention. The aim is to create wines that are allowed to develop, that have substance and attitude and do not pander - wines that speak softly but resonate for a long time.
This approach is attracting international attention: in 2021, Lesehof Stagård was voted one of the "Top 100 Wineries of the World" by the renowned Wine & Spirits Magazine. A clear signal that great wines can be produced in the Kremstal - if you let them.
The style of the wines ranges from the straightforward "urban.R" to nine single-vineyard Rieslings with a strong character. Each wine in itself is an attempt to get closer to the essence of the soil. "Craft" stands in between. The result: balanced, individual wines that serve as a bridge to the depth of the vineyards. At the heart of all this, however, is a clear attitude: wine is created in the vineyard - character in the cellar. And both need one thing: time.
