"Warm Dishes" Bars in Baden-Wuerttemberg
The bar at the Fritz & Felix restaurant in the style of the Roaring Twenties is a new crowd-puller. The bar creates its own drinks and reinterprets classics in a modern way. Among other things, homemade vermouths and one of the largest collections of German gins and whisk(e)ys are served.
This extremely stylish bar gem in the luxury Hotel Brenner's is a popular meeting place for high society, especially of the international gallop raciness. The Oleander Bar was named after the legendary thoroughbred stallion from Baron Schlenderhahn's stud farm. The quality of the drinks and the ambience are outstanding.
First-class bar-restaurant by gastronomic visionary Willi Schoellmann on the top floor of a former fashion house with a view over Offenburg. The cocktails are highly experimental, but fantastic, and are mixed with regional fruit brandies, for example. The food on offer is of the very highest quality.
For 25 years, this establishment has stood for bar culture at the highest level. In 2022, the drinks menu - previously almost as thick as a telephone directory - was slimmed down and trimmed to reflect the spirit of the times, without the selection losing any of its authenticity. In summer, the Santo Hotel's local gem attracts guests with its cosy terrace.
Where there are drinks called "Fuji Apple/Vanilla/Soda", one thing is clear: it's going to be ambitious. But not in a cramped, cool way. Because they know what makes a good cocktail and enjoy making people happy with it. A mixture that is just as rare as drinks at this level.
The chic lobby bar in the four-star Hotel Blauer Reiter, which opened in 2019, impresses with first-class cocktails from bar manager Niklas Strohmenger and a cosy winter garden. Cocktail courses and a special menu for ladies are offered on selected days. Not to be confused with the Berlin Curtain Club.
There is a Friedrichs in almost every city. But the former cocktail master of southern Germany doesn't greet you behind the bar everywhere. Erim Türkmen shakes, stirs and mixes his guests out of their minds. And yet afterwards they leave his bar smarter. Let's see if anyone can imitate him.
New bar manager, old recipe for success: Salvatore Giustiniani is a virtuoso behind the bar who delights his guests with liquid classics and his own creations in equal measure. His creativity comes to the fore when the drinks – whether non-alcoholic or not – become a harmonious accompaniment to the top-class menus.
Heidelberg looks like a doll's town. So it's fitting that it also has restaurants where everything fits together perfectly like in a doll's house. The service, the modern cuisine and, of course, the drinks. With a bit of luck, you can sit outside and catch a glimpse of the almost kitschy beauty.
In this rooftop bar, you can enjoy an intoxicating view over the rooftops of Baden-Baden to the Black Forest. The Roomers Bar sets standards in many respects: an exclusive selection of whisk(e)y meets excellent signature drinks, the well-trained staff provide competent and witty advice.
This multi-award-winning cult bar is atmospherically located in an old vaulted cellar. The owners Claudia Álamo Masanet and Lennart Geist serve cocktails here under the name "Liquid Kitchen". The online store offers in-house bottled cocktails and selected spirits. An inner courtyard beckons in summer.
It feels a little like being in Herrmann Hesse's "Magic Theater". As if you had escaped the world with its 24 hours and sunrises and sunsets for the duration of a few drinks. Dimmed lights, no arena: this circus surprises with extravagant creations that are as funny as clowns.
Visitors to this bar might be tempted to pull out their binoculars and use them - like the bar's namesake - to find out what is lurking at the bottom of all those bottles behind the counter. But you don't have to: the friendly staff provide expert advice - but it's still a little adventure.
Europa-Park bar in the superior Bell Rock Hotel impresses with its extensive range of whisk(e)y and 1920s-style ambience. The Spirit of St. Louis Bar has a separate non-smoking area. In summer, numerous seats on the terrace invite you to linger and enjoy. Small dishes are also on offer.
Actually, it doesn't take much at all. A little love for the craft and the right instinct for people and what they want without necessarily knowing it yet. Okay, that's quite a lot. All the better then that there is a place in Crailsheim where it all comes together. And in a fun way, too.
If you could start all over again, would houses look the way they do? What about cars or hairstyles? At the Blaupause, not much time is wasted on such questions. You throw ice into the shaker, add whatever you like and serve drinks that still turn everything upside down.
A sky bar with a cow carpet! There's sushi, a mischievous grin from the barman and a view that makes the drinks taste even better than they already do. The style of the bar is aimed at a young clientele, but it is casually timeless. It's a place where you can enjoy yourself.
A bar that dispenses with labels because the spirits and what the bar staff make of them speak for themselves. And if you need to reflect after a few drinks, you can even have a cigarette here at the bar late at night. The bar is clearly a cult bar.
Anyone who has never had a "Star of Bombay" through a straw should definitely do so. Nice and lemony and refreshing, but with enough tart elements to make you remember how absurd the whole human thing can sometimes be. But as we all know, good drinks can help you get over that.
