Artist refuses to go ‘bananas’ after student gets his teeth into display

Banana taped to a wall at Seoul museum proves irresistible with student labelling stunt as ‘rebellion against the rebellion’.

As many parents often tell their children: breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

It appears that old adage is as true in South Korea as it is across Europe, one art student forced into drastic action when he neglected to eat after rising from his bed.

The sight of a ripe banana taped to a wall proved too much of an attraction for Noh Huyn-soo, who proceeded to remove the fruit, unpeel it and eat it. The only problem was that the banana in question was at the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul and it was an artwork entitled ‘Comedian’ by Maurizio Cattelan.

Whether it was a dare by Mr Noh’s friend is unknown, but they did manage to record the incident which lasted for more than a minute – the art ‘critic’ then taping the peel to the wall.

Afterwards, Mr Noh said he saw Cattelan’s work as rebellion, before telling KBS: “There could be another rebellion against the rebellion.” The banana was later replaced by the museum and when informed of the actions of Mr Noh, Cattelan said: “No problem at all.”

Uno studente sudcoreano ha mangiato una banana parte di una famosa installazione dell'artista italiano Maurizio Cattelan. Intervistato dai media locali il ragazzo ha poi detto di averlo fatto perché aveva "fame".
