The Austrian skiing legend has created his own cuveé for the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery.

"A visit with consequences" is how the Salzl Seewinkelhof winery describes Hermann Maier's tour of their estate, which took place on behalf of the Raiffeisen Bank. Over the course of his tour, the 2-time Olympic gold medalist himself blended his own cuvée: a full-bodied red wine, which was bottled in August 2024. Made from the Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varietals, Salzl Seewinkelhof describes Maier's creation as "Impressively dense, dark berry and full-bodied."

Owner Christoph Salzl could hardly contain his enthusiasm: "We are incredibly proud to bring out a very special wine with such a legend. A red cuveé, as explosive and powerful as Maier was known to be on his best descents." The wine matured for twelve months in a small oak barrel and is available in both 0.75-liter bottles and strictly limited 1.5-liter magnum bottles. This limits the total amount to just 54 bottles – one for each of Hermann Maier's World Cup victories. The special feature of the magnum bottles? Each one is signed by Maier. "When such a star autographs the bottles, it's another special honor," said Salzl.

The wine is available for €40 directly from the winery or in their webshop.

For the Salzl family, enjoyment is a good glass of wine that reflects the warmth, joie de vivre and uniqueness of the Seewinkel region. Illmitz in Burgenland is not only home to...
