Last Kingdom tours at Bamburgh Castle

Netflix series comes to life at a new exhibition in Northumberland.

Last year, the final season of The Last Kingdom was released on Netflix, with the conclusion of the historical series, Seven Kings Must Die, released in April. Fans who cannot wait that long will have the chance to experience more of the TV saga, based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories novels, at a new exhibition at Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland.

Visitors can get close to the costumes worn in the series and the props used by the actors, with the exhibition including outfits donned by Alexander Dreymon, who plays Uhtred of Bebbanburg, Thea Sofie Loch Næss (Skade), Ola Rapace (Viking warrior Bloodhair), and Cavan Clerkin (warrior-priest Father Pyrlig).

The exhibition is located in the Castle’s King’s Hall, the basis of Bebbanburg´s medieval banqueting hall, where the real Uhtred could have feasted; and for those visitors who have never watched the series, the exhibition will bring to life characters based on Bamburgh´s past as the capital of the kingdom of Northumbria, home to the kings and queens of its Golden Age.

The Last Kingdom is produced by Carnival Films, with some of the series’ battle scenes filmed at Bamburgh beach, in the shadow of the castle. “It’s truly wonderful that Bamburgh Castle is putting on this exhibition and giving the show’s loyal fans and members of the public a chance to step into the real Last Kingdom,” said Nigel Marchant, producer at Carnival Films, whose other shows include Downton Abbey.

The Last Kingdom at Bebbanburg exhibition opens on February 18 when the Castle reopens daily to visitors, 10am-5pm (last admission 4pm). Special Last Kingdom tours will take place on Saturdays throughout February and March and are free with general admission.
