Major cruise lines relax covid vaccine requirements

Norwegian, Carnival and Royal Caribbean are easing Covid vaccine and pre-cruise testing requirements for passengers.

From September, Norwegian will ease its pandemic-era requirements for passengers by dropping its Covid vaccine mandate. Next month, the cruise company will welcome unvaccinated guests, however, they are required to show a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to departure.

The operator of Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises luxury brands, is the latest to allow unvaccinated passengers on its ships. This month, major companies including Carnival Cruise Line, MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean also announced new rules regarding testing requirements for vaccinated passengers on shorter journeys. In addition, Royal Caribbean Group will not require passengers to be fully vaccinated on select sailings starting next month.

In February, the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) also stopped monitoring the presence of Covid on ships, explaining “Cruise ships have access to guidance and tools to manage their own COVID-19 mitigation programmes.”
