The hotel on Lake Lucerne celebrates its grand reopening as the Mandarin Oriental on 24 September after extensive renovations. Its new head chef is Michelin-starred Gilad Peled.
The Hotel Palace Luzern has been a Belle Époque landmark on the shores of Lake Lucerne since it opened in 1906. After being taken over by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in 2019, the freshly renovated hotel is about to have its grand reopening. All the guest rooms and suites been refurbished and the restaurants and bars redesigned. And now the group is bringing in an international star chef in Gilad Peled. Most recently, the two-star chef cooked at Le Pressoir d'Argent Gordon Ramsay in Bordeaux.
As the new executive chef, Gilad Peled now heads the kitchens of the four new restaurants and bars. Guests can expect to traverse through some of the world's most diverse cuisines. In the all-day MOzern Bar & Brasserie, traditional English afternoon tea and innovative cocktails are served alongside Asian delicacies and timeless classics.
The terrace restaurant Quai 10 offers its guests Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and a direct view of Lake Lucerne. With a focus on local and seasonal food, Colonnade offers modern French haute cuisine. Mizūmi is particularly exclusive, with only six seats. It serves elegant and creatively prepared Japanese cuisine.
Lucerne-based architectural firm Iwan Bühler Architekten and London-based interior designers Jestico + Whiles are responsible for the renovation. Both focused on preserving the Belle Époque heritage of the house and its history while modernising the design.
"Almost three years after the official announcement, we are delighted to finally be able to welcome our guests to the Mandarin Oriental Palace, Lucerne and delight them with our signature service," says general manager Christian Wildhaber. "The historic building has been deeply rooted in Lucerne since 1906 and we would also like to continue this close connection to the local community by bringing the spirit of the 'Palace' back to Lake Lucerne."
