The first Karl Lagerfeld hotel opens in Macau next month

The German-born fashion magnate designed the hotel himself prior to his death in 2019.

The fashion house that bears his name is synonymous with chic design and extravagance, with the latest addition to the Karl Lagerfeld collection arriving next month – the Karl Lagerfeld Macau hotel.

The fashion designer may no longer be with us, but his inspiration lives on with the new venture the only hotel in the world to have been completely designed by the man himself: from the interiors of the rooms to the finishings on the bed linen.

A June opening is planned at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort, with the 271 rooms at the opulent five-star venue on the southern China coast full of the distinctive bold colours and patterns associated with Lagerfeld: Western aesthetics fused with classic Chinese designs creating a venue like no other. Among the features in the rooms, suites and across the hotel are commissioned sculptures by Dutch artist Marcel Wanders and French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, Terzani chandeliers, classic custom-created headboards inspired by Chinese coins representing good fortune, with porcelain vases handmade in Jingdezhen.

Along with the hotel rooms, the Mesa restaurant will feature a distinctive menu by award-winning chef José Avillez, with a 4,000-book library and a spa and wellness centre, complete with several pools.

The hotel will come under the SJM Resorts S.A. banner, and prior to his death in 2019, Lagerfeld had worked closely for a number of years with SJM on the design. The grand opening will no doubt be marked by extravagant celebrations with details on the exact time and nature of the party in Macau to be released closer to the time.
