Italian beef sandwich: the cult recipe from 'The Bear' to recreate

Attention "The Bear" fans: How to make the famous Italian beef sandwich.

In the fourth season of "The Bear", the sparks fly again. To coincide with the start of the new season, we have the legendary recipe for the Italian Beef Sandwich. Between jus-soaked bread, thinly sliced beef and spicy pickled vegetables, you'll find a piece of real Chicago at home.

Ingredients (8 servings)
1,5 – 2 kg Roast beef (e.g. top round or sirloin)
Salt
Pepper
Olive oil
6 Garlic cloves
1 Onion, quartered
1 l Beef broth
2 tablespoon(s) Dried oregano
2 tablespoon(s) Garlic powder
1 tablespoon(s) Basil, dried
1 teaspoon(s) Red chili flakes
2 sticks Celery
8 Italian sandwich buns
1 glass Giardiniera
  • Heat the oil in a large pan. Sear the meat all over.
  • Fry the onion quarters and garlic.
  • Pour in the stock, add oregano, red chili flakes, salt and pepper.
  • Stew gently over a low heat for three hours until the meat is very tender.
  • Remove the meat from the sauce and leave to cool slightly.
  • Slice thinly - ideally with a slicer or sharp knife.
  • Return the thin slices of meat to the jus and leave to stand for 10-15 minutes.
  • Cut into the sandwich rolls (do not cut through), toast lightly if necessary.
  • Put in as much meat as possible.
  • Top with giardiniera.
  • Optional: Dip the finished sandwich briefly in the jus.
