The best wines from Moslavina

Croatia

Moslavina is a small region to the southeast of Zagreb. The climate here is very suitable for white wines, which tend towards being fresh and lively in character. Rural and off the beaten track, time seems to have stood still in this part of Croatia. While other regions have embraced international varieties, wines here are produced primarily from autochthonous varieties such as Škrlet, Diseca Ranina and Moslavac. Škrlet, with its delicate style and fresh, crisp, dry fruit, is perhaps the most interesting of these. Critics may complain that there is no international connection, but this is a region for wine-drinking pioneers; wineries are small and happy to produce wines to the local taste from local grapes.
