Aleksić Vinarija

Falstaff Online Österreich 2023 - Weingüter - Osteuropa

The Aleksic Winery is an excellent example of what women can achieve in a wine world that is still dominated by men. You could say pure female power, because the winery in Vranje in the south of Serbia on the border with Macedonia was founded in 2006 by the three Aleksic sisters Dragana, Maja and Marija. The sisters discovered their great love of wine at an early age and so the desire to give new impetus to wine culture in the south of the country grew. The work in the vineyard and cellar is supervised by an experienced oenologist. The first red wine was released in 2007, followed by the first white wine in 2009. The wines from the Aleksic Winery received their first awards as early as 2013, including bronze medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards and the Austrian Wine Challenge. Since 2014, the wines have been exported to Denmark, Germany and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Perhaps the winery received its highest accolade in 2015 when it won the AWC's "Winery of the Year Award". Today, around 60 hectares are under vines in a climate that can be described as moderately continental. The days are warm and dry, but cooler temperatures at night give the wines an invigorating freshness. In the absence of sufficient rainfall, the vineyards are irrigated by a state-of-the-art, computer-controlled drip irrigation system. After starting with the international grape varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, special attention is now also paid to the indigenous and autochthonous varieties Morava, Prokupac, Tamjanika, Smederevka and Muscat Hamburg. Today, 14 different wines are produced, from white to rosé to red, divided into 4 wine lines - Basic, Classic, Limited and Premium. The latter also includes a raki distilled from Muscat Hamburg. The winery's wines are extremely popular in Serbia itself, you can even find them in supermarkets, but experts attest to their much higher quality than you might expect from these outlets. In addition, the Aleksic sisters always leave a certain proportion of their wines to mature and age in a wine bak in order to demonstrate the certain ageing potential of their wines.
