Guerila Wines
In Slovenia - and probably not only there - they say that a man can run away from the farm, but the farm can never run away from his heart. This may have been the case for Zmagoslav Petric, as he was born into a farming family in 1956, which also had a few vines in its holdings. This connection to his childhood made him decide to found a winery. In 2005, Guerila Wines began operations in the VIapava Valley in the Primorskee region. It was clear to him from the outset that he wanted the business to be consistently biodynamic, from the vineyard to the cellar, because respect for nature and working in harmony with it plays a very important role in his thinking and work. His terraced parcels, planted almost exclusively with indigenous grape varieties, have a perfect southern exposure and the vines grow and thrive on a terroir of sand, sandstone, limestone, marl and clay. All work in the modern winery is carried out by hand and in accordance with the biodynamic calendar. Fermentation takes place exclusively with natural yeasts, and the finished wines are bottled unfiltered. As no animalistic substances are used in the winemaking process, the wines can even be labeled as vegan. Two Brut Nature sparkling wines are produced, naturally using the traditional method of bottle fermentation, the white sparkling wine is based exclusively on the local varieties Zelen, Pinea and Rebula, while the rosé is exceptionally based on the international varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are also used in the "still" rosé. White wines are also available from varieties such as Pinela and Malvasia. The "Selection" line also includes white wines from Rebula and a cuvée of local white wine varieties. There are also red wines made from Barbera or Cabernet Franc. The "Guerila Extrem" line should be of particular interest to real nerds, as it consists of amphora wines from the Barbera and Rebula varieties, as well as the "Rebula Extrem", which was allowed to mature for 2 years on the fine lees. The winery offers three well-equipped vacation apartments for visitors and interested parties. The wines from Guerila Wines are a great addition to the Slovenian wine scene and are highly praised by experts and critics. Everyone agrees that Zmagoslav Petric has created one of the most original wineries in the country.
