Korenika & Moškon is a family-run winery in Slovenia that cultivates 25 hectares of vineyards, has planted three hectares of olive trees and produces virgin olive oil. All of the estate's products are biodynamically certified by Demeter. They are among the pioneers and are currently one of the largest organic producers in the region. "Why organic? Because we drink our wine every day, we live from the soil and we know that we only have this soil to live and survive on," says Matej Korenika.
The majority of the vineyards are planted with indigenous varieties. Seventy percent of the production is dedicated to Malvazija (white), Refošk (red), Rumeni Muškat (sweet white wine). The rest is shared by world-famous international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. "Why indigenous varieties? Because these are the varieties that have always grown in our region and can best express our terroir." There is no better way to put it in a nutshell.
Some of the wines are fresh and fruity and are intended for everyday consumption. These wines are made from grapes grown in young vineyards. The majority of the wines are high-quality products. This is where tradition and ancient knowledge passed down from generation to generation come together. These wines mature in large wooden barrels, tonneaux or barriques, lie on their skins for a long time without added yeasts and are bottled without filtration or chemical additives. Only in this way can the work in the vineyard be fully expressed in the glass.
