Vinarija Aleksandrović

The Aleksandrovic family's winery in the vineyards of Oplenac lies on important historical ground, as wine was already being cultivated here in ancient times. This corner of the Sumadija wine-growing region is often referred to as the "Tuscany" of Serbia due to its graceful hilly landscape. The family has been involved in viticulture for over 100 years and has been working with the royal wine cellars ever since. Great-grandfather Milios Aleksandrivic was also involved in the founding of the region's first winegrowers' cooperative in 1903. In the middle of the last century, the family owned around 30,000 vines. In 1992, the Aleksandrovic family decided to usher in a renaissance of Serbia's once most prestigious region, and when the then famous cellar master Zivan Tadic heard about it, he sent the secret of the "Triumf" cuvée to the winery. This wine was considered the best wine in the royal wine cellars and was drunk at many European royal and aristocratic courts. The decisive step in the development of the Aleksandrovic winery was then taken in 2000, when a new winery was built according to the most modern standards, focused exclusively on the production of premium wines. Today, the winery cultivates 75 hectares in the immediate vicinity in order to keep distances short. Only high-quality grape varieties such as Chardonnay, RIesling, Sauvognon Blanc, Traminer, from which a noble sweet wine is produced, as well as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, from which two wine lines are created, are cultivated. One of these is the "Triumph" line, a premium line whose name recalls the royal past of the Oplenac vineyards. Manual labour dominates in the vineyard, and yields are extremely low at around 1 to 1.5 kilos per vine. The winery also produces rosé wines from the rather rare Muscat Hamburg grape variety, as well as sparkling wines and a brandy. Numerous medals and awards document Vinarija Aleksandrovic's rise to become one of the best wineries in Serbia.
