Vinarija Lastar

Falstaff Online Österreich 2023 - Weingüter - Osteuropa

The Lastar winery is located in the south-east of Serbia in the foothills of the Juhor Mountains. This mountain range is also important for the vineyards, as it provides an excellent microclimate in which the vines thrive. The region itself has become quiet, although the important Belgrade-Constantinople artery used to run through here. The terroir is perfect, with up to 7 different soil formations in places, in which clay is the most important factor, giving the wines a fine minerality. The Lastar winery cultivates 26 hectares here at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. Only international grape varieties are planted, the high-quality clones of which were imported from France. These are Muscat à Petit Grains, known here as Tamnajinka, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Pinot Noir. There is even a vineyard with Riesling vines dating back to 1976. The yield, which is deliberately kept low in favour of high quality, is divided into two lines, a classic line and the special Triangl line. In the classic line, the white wines are bottled as single varietals, while the red wines consist of a single varietal Pinot Noir and a cuvée of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Triangl line, on the other hand, consists of a Chardonnay and a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. The winery has state of the art cellar technology at its disposal for ageing. High ratings for the wines show that the winery is on the right track.
