For more than 200 years, the estate in Krems-Rehberg has been owned by the Hagen family, who are increasingly becoming absolute Veltliner specialists. Lukas Hagen took over the winery from his parents in February 2022 and looks after the vineyards together with his father Anton. Anton is the cellar master and both are responsible for sales and marketing. From the approximately 16 hectares of vineyards, mainly white wines are vinified, but also some red wine.
The microclimate of the nearby Danube valley and the tart, oxygen-rich air of the Waldviertel favour the spiciness and finesse of the wines. Thanks to quality-enhancing spur pruning, careful foliage work, environmentally conscious vineyard management and gentle grape pressing, top quality is achieved here. Anton Hagen is one of the most reliable producers in the Krems area and produces outstanding wines from Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Rivaner and Zweigelt. The Grüner Veltliner - two thirds of the vineyard area is planted with it - thrives mainly on loess, a small part on gravel soil. Anton Hagen has selected the type of Veltliner that feels most at home in Krems from 45- to 75-year-old vines. Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay are planted on the limestone-rich loess terraces. The best and sunniest mother rock terraces are ideal for Riesling, which grows in the Kremsleithen, Weinzierlberg and Altenburg vineyards.
