The Felberjörgl Winery is located in the heart of Sausal in Höch am Demmerkogl. Currently, approximately 13 hectares of vineyards are cultivated at elevations ranging from 550 to 650 meters above sea level. The wines differ significantly from those of other wine-growing regions and are strongly influenced by the phyllitic slate. This unique minerality lends the wines a complex bouquet, a certain coolness, and elegant firmness, combined with a salty, lively acidity.
All grape varieties significant to the region are grown here, with the primary focus on highlighting the distinct characteristics of each variety and vineyard site: from classic, light-bodied wines through full-bodied single-vineyard wines to the Prädikat wine segment, the strengths of each variety are emphasized.
The estate’s most important vineyards are Höchleit’n and Kreuzegg. The former, at up to 650 meters above sea level, is one of Austria’s highest vineyards and offers excellent conditions for Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon, Riesling, and Welschriesling. Kreuzegg is located at the same elevation as the winery. Here, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc are the standout varieties. The soil has a thicker layer of humus than that of the Höchleit’n vineyard, resulting in wines that are somewhat denser and more complex. Other vineyards include Zwickl, Mosergut, and Schrotter. A very important aspect of the winery is the production of sweet wine, with most of the grapes for this purpose also coming from the Höchleit’n vineyard. There is a rich selection ranging from light Auslese to Eiswein and Trockenbeerenauslese, all the way to the highly concentrated Strohweine.
You can taste and enjoy the wines at the family-run wine tavern, where, in addition to the wines, homemade Styrian delicacies, fruit juices, and fine brandies are also offered.
