Falstaff Wineguide Germany 2019

Volker Gies is the fourth generation to run this traditional winery. He focuses in particular on the white wine varieties, which make up more than two thirds of the vineyard area. In the current collection, the Riesling from the top vineyard Kastanienbusch scores particularly well. From the rather large portfolio of red varieties, the mature Pinot Noir was very pleasing. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is practiced in the vineyard. The family attaches great importance to short pruning, defoliation and thinning out, as well as selective harvesting of ripe grapes.
