Nature sets the tone at the winery of Ludwig and Michaela Ehn. The siblings cultivate 15 hectares of the best Langenlois vineyards with great passion for the craft and according to ecological principles. "As close to nature as possible, as flexible as necessary," is the credo of Ludwig Ehn, who runs the family business, founded in 1859, with his sister in the fifth generation. In order to create the ideal conditions for the best grapes with healthy soils and vines, the winery relies on pest control that is gentle on beneficial insects and naturally avoids the use of insecticides and herbicides, avoids plastic and minimises tractor trips and emissions.
The Kamptal climate and the special soil structure pave the way for the unmistakable freshness and spiciness of the Ehn wines. The range of different top vineyards such as the Panzaun, Spiegel and Heiligenstein vineyards form the basis for the diversity of varieties. In addition to the leading varieties Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, which are bottled as Kamptal DAC, the winery has dedicated itself to the aroma varieties Sauvignon Blanc and Muskateller as well as the traditional Gemischter Satz and the original Austrian Neuburger.
Kamptal wines "to drink out of series" are available at the Ehn winery. Wine is like music, think nature lovers and culture enthusiasts Ludwig and Michaela Ehn: monotony is boring. They appreciate the variety in the vineyard and in the glass and attach great importance to individuality in the artisanal care of the individual vineyards as well as in the vinification. "Through controlled fermentation and careful ageing and maturation phases in stainless steel or wood, we manage to preserve the character of each variety and site as unadulteratedly as possible," says the winemaker. The expressive and balanced wines with high drinking pleasure, for which the name Ehn stands, prove him right.
