There are many impressive things about Bründlmayer: the people, the quality of the wines produced here in Langenlois and, finally, the friendly and modest nature of the man who has been responsible for the success of this flagship company since 1980. Almost every wine - from the lightest Grüner Veltliner to red wines and sparkling wines - has the potential to be the best in its category.
Most of the vineyards are planted in terraces and have been organically farmed since 2015. Around a quarter of the vineyards are cultivated using what is known as "Lyra training". The estate's most important grape variety is and remains Grüner Veltliner: the spectrum ranges from light regional wines to complex and sustainable single-vineyard wines. The Riesling grapes grow on barren rocky soils such as the Steinmassl and Heiligenstein vineyards. The historically oldest and certainly most famous vineyard is the Zöbinger Heiligenstein, whose soil dates back 270 million years to the Permian period. This desert sandstone with volcanic components creates the conditions for the growth of outstanding wines. The finest fruit ripens high up on the mountain in a self-contained nature reserve.
Chardonnay and the Burgundy varieties (Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc) are also considered specialities of the estate. Even if the red wines shine more through finesse than power, Willi Bründlmayer takes particular pleasure in producing beautiful, wholesome red wines with a distinctive personality in this climatic border region. His Pinot Noir in particular has recently attracted international attention. The "Bründlmayer Brut Reserve" is in a class of its own, aged on lees for around three years after classic fermentation, then shaken by hand and disgorged in the cellar. The most valuable vintages have been stored in the wine archive since 1947. During intensive internal tastings from the wine shop archive, you learn a lot about the vineyards, vintage character and ageing style.
With an export share of 30 percent, the family business is also very successful internationally. The winery has received the "Winery of the Year" award from the American "Wine & Spirits Magazine" five times in a row, and the British "Financial Times" calls Bründlmayer a "beacon of Austrian viticulture".
All current wines can also be tasted by the glass in the Heurigenhof Bründlmayer, a Renaissance building dating back to the 16th century.
