Tasting from 01.01.2017: Peter Moser

The 1863 vintage was not only one of the best port vintages of the 19th century, it was also the last before phylloxera spread in the Douro Valley. Light amber with subtle gold reflections, copper glints. With a fascinating youthful tawny aroma, soft sweet-nutty aromas, pleasant wood, notes of nougat and caramel, hints of red fruit, and candied orange. On the palate, silky, with a well integrated sweetness, fine tannins, structured by a vital acidity that carries into a long finish, subtle prunes, a perfect drink, a fascinating wine of incredible vitality, which would have certainly survived another 100 years.
