The white wine Villa Maria Keltern Chardonnay, vintage 2020 from the winery Villa Maria has been rated in 2022 by Anne Krebiehl with 95 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Chardonnay from the region Hawkes Bay in New Zealand.
From one of New Zealand's most famous Chardonnay vineyards with free-draining silt and loam on gravel, this opens with very subtle notes of earth, smoke and Mirabelle plum fruit. It si on the palate that the depth of fruit unfolds, bedded on a wonderfully springy, elastic texture. The finish is subtle, lasting, rich with umami and yeast, a subtle but most convincing wine.
