Oberlaa is the oft-forgotten exotic in the Viennese terroir, but the name Wieselthaler was first mentioned in a document in 1628. However, a lot has changed in the almost four hundred years since then. In the past, the estate was purely a livestock and agricultural business, but today the focus is solely on viticulture. Franz Wieselthaler's grandfather planted the first vines in 1950. Today, eight hectares of vineyards are cultivated. This means that wine is now being made in the fourth generation. "Always with respect for nature and careful handling of our vineyards, we are laying the foundations for the future products of our winery. For us, wine is more than just alcohol. Wine is a valuable natural asset that is highly valued in Austria," says the Viennese winegrower. The Laaerberg vineyard comprises the vineyards in the south-east of Vienna, which are located in the Oberlaa-Stadt cadastral district. With around 24 hectares of planted area, it is the second smallest of Vienna's large vineyards. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 190 and 270 meters above sea level - sloping down to the east. The Goldberg, Weichseltal and Johannespointen vineyards are among the estate's carefully cultivated sites. The wines can be tasted during a guided tour of the wine cellar or in the traditional Viennese Buschenschank, which is open six months a year. A sumptuous buffet offers fresh delicacies for every taste every day - caraway roast and Surschnitzel, but also a juicy fried chicken, homemade salads and spreads are the classics of the house.

What started as a side business in the 1950s has long since fully developed under the expert hands of the Wieselthaler family into one of the top wine spots in the small but exceptional wine village of Oberlaa. It includes a large buffet, fried chicken, pork schnitzel, served along with wonderful red wines!
