Franken's oldest vintners cooperative unites 90 small family businesses that have been cultivating their own vineyards, that are often less than 1 ha, for generations. They are doing it sustainably, with as few chemicals as possible, with a decent pay for the winegrowers and with a great deal of idealism. They vinify their traditional, typical for the region varieties, following the principle that "good wine begins in the vineyard." The most typical site for the cooperative is called Katzenkopf, and this year's bottlings from it are outstanding.
