"Franconian wine is wine for the sick," people used to say. This statement alludes to the wholesome and mineral nature of the typical wine of the region, the Silvaner. In the Steigerwald, large volumes grow on gypsum skeuper soils; moreover, the Silvaner from Iphofen and the surrounding area ripens particularly well. In the Würzburg region, the Triassic limestone dominates - and with it, the spiciness in the wine. Downstream near Bürgstadt and Klingenberg, red sandstone is found in the soil. Here, Silvaner takes a back seat and leaves the stage to the finely fruity Pinot Noir. Whether filled in the traditional Bocksbeutel or in a Burgundy bottle, Franconia's wines still have the reputation of being particularly honest representatives of their kind: prepared according to good professional practice and excellent to pair with food.
