From Milan to Athens: one of Italy's most iconic dishes has found a new champion. At the 2026 The Best Pizza Awards, a Greek pizzeria claimed the world's top Margherita title.

Athens, not Naples, is now home to the world's best Margherita pizza, according to The Best Pizza Awards 2026. The title went to Napul'e in the Athens suburb of Vari, while its chef Francesco Granata also ranked No. 16 among the world's best pizzaioli. Originally from Naples, Granata combines traditional Neapolitan techniques with premium Italian ingredients in Greece.
