Bobergs Matsal steps into a new era
At Stockholm’s iconic Nordiska Kompaniet department store, Michelin-starred chefs Tommy Myllymäki and Pi Le are redefining the historic Bobergs Matsal with new Saturday shopping lunches and the launch of Bobergs Bar.
When Tommy Myllymäki and Pi Le – two of Sweden’s most celebrated chefs – took over the historic Bobergs Matsal at the famed department store Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) last summer, it marked the beginning of a new chapter for one of Stockholm’s most iconic dining rooms. Their mission: to safeguard the restaurant’s heritage while infusing it with a fresh, modern spirit.
Just over a year later, that ambition is taking shape. This autumn, Bobergs Matsal expands its offering with Saturday shopping lunches and the debut of Bobergs Bar – both designed to make the restaurant a social hub for foodies in the heart of Stockholm. Saturdays at NK will come with a new allure as guests can indulge in an elegant lunch that begins with canapés and champagne before moving on to the restaurant’s signature dish: a delicate quenelle of scallop and snow crab, reimagined as a main course. Fancy yet relaxed, it’s a weekend ritual in the making.
The new Bobergs Bar, which opens alongside, adds another dimension. Just steps from the dining room, it invites visitors to pop in for a perfectly crafted cocktail or a glass of wine from their carefully curated list – a refreshing intermezzo during a day of shopping, or the perfect ending to it.
Since opening its doors in 1915, Nordiska Kompaniet has been at the center of Stockholm’s shopping scene. Modelled on the great department stores of Paris and London, NK has long been a destination where fashion, design, beauty, and gastronomy meet under one roof. Its timeless architecture, buzzing atmosphere and carefully curated mix of international and Swedish brands have made it both a landmark and a lifestyle hub.
For Myllymäki and Le, Bobergs Matsal’s setting inside NK is an essential part of its identity. “Bobergs Matsal is a place where we want to bring together craftsmanship, flavor and culture,” says Pi Le. “By introducing Saturday lunches and the new bar, we are creating experiences that feel perfectly at home in NK’s unique atmosphere.”
With their signature mix of precision, elegance and a welcoming ambiance, Myllymäki and Le are redefining Bobergs Matsal for a new generation – creating not just a restaurant, but a destination where food and style go hand in hand – at the epicenter of Stockholm’s most iconic department store.
