Enjoyment to go: Streetfood Guide Austria 2024
Colorful, sometimes even flashy, garnishes and then again very traditional like grandma's: street food is not a recipe, but a way of life. The FALSTAFF street food guide lists where you can find good food on the go.
The fourth FALSTAFF Streetfood Guide is once again an indicator of changing eating habits. Not just because you sometimes have to look up some exotic ingredients, even as a "foodie". But also because this kind of "easy eating" simply hits a nerve. This is not (only) about inflation! If you like, street food is the ideal answer to the increasingly digital lifestyle: quick to enjoy, available everywhere and yet very traditional when it comes to recipes.
The latter is important, as it allows classics of Austrian cuisine to take on new forms and win fans. Just as traditional everyday recipes of various peoples once enriched the menu. Just think of Phở, Ćevapčići or fish 'n' chips. Not everyone has to enjoy a "Tafelspitz Bowl", but basically this offer is a tribute to a cuisine that you would like to enjoy "casually".
The figures show the unbroken popularity of pizza, bánh mì, ramen, börek and poké bowls: the guide lists around 550 street food restaurants in Austria - almost 10% more than in the previous year. And quality is also improving according to the votes of the FALSTAFF community, the basis for all ratings: 150 businesses are rated better than in 2023. You will find the best lists in 21 categories, reflecting the colourful picture of the casual dining scene.
The best burger joint in Carinthia can be found as well as Burgenland's best sushi. And this can be done quickly thanks to the leaderboards. Just like street food!
The ranking is based on the total number of points and the food points.
The best street food addresses in Vienna
Vienna is undoubtedly the heart of the Austrian street food scene. The capital offers a wealth of street food options that delight both locals and tourists. From hip food trucks and innovative fusion dishes to traditional stalls that reinterpret classic Viennese delicacies - everyone will find something to suit their taste here. Due to the variety on offer in Vienna, the capital's winners are also divided into different categories.

The best addresses in Austria
In Tyrol, Una Pizza in Innsbruck emerged as the winner. Italian antipasti, pasta and Neapolitan pizza delight fans of Italian cuisine. In Styria, Frankowitsch and Taflo share first place. While Frankowitsch in Graz is known for its sandwiches, Taflo in Bruck an der Mur serves burgers, bowls and bagels.
Neusiedl am See is home to Burgenland's national winner. The Neu Neusiedler offers vegan bowls as well as burgers. Whether a smash burger or Teresa Karlo's steppe beef, burger lovers are guaranteed to get their money's worth here. The selection of natural wines is also impressive.
In Lower Austria, the Beef + Burger Steakhouse restaurant in Herzogenburg is a hit. As the name suggests, there are burgers and juicy steaks here. In Upper Austria, the Koch Baukasten in Mehrnbach and once again the Leberkas-Pepi in Linz made it to first place. At the food truck in Mehrnbach, you can put together your own burger according to your own preferences using the modular principle.
If you are hungry for something other than a burger, the Leberkas-Pepi offers a wide range of Leberkas variations: in addition to the classic, it is also available with cheese, chili or truffle and porcini mushroom. The top address in Vorarlberg is the GAMS 1648 in Bezau. To accompany pizza from the stone oven, you can choose from a variety of wines in the wine bar.
In Salzburg, three addresses landed on the winners' podium. At Austrian Tapas - Foodtruck & Catering in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer you will find – as the name suggests – Austrian tapas in street food style. At Gauchos del Gusto in Fuschl you will find Argentinian cuisine: salon beefsteak sandwiches, chimichurri burgers and choripan. At Siam Thaiküche you will find authentic Thai specialities such as Tom Kha Gai, Pad Thai or Wan Tan. In Carinthia, the Hafenstadt Urban Area in Klagenfurt delights with blues, jazz and cocktails as well as a weekly changing menu and breakfast from 7 am to 3 pm. The address is not just a restaurant, but also a meeting place for the creative scene and a living space in its own right with a culinary bonus.
