Too much sake in the blood: alcohol problem at Japan Airlines
A drunken pilot recently paralyzed air traffic - not the first incident at Japan Airlines. Now the management is being called to account and salary cuts are on the agenda.
As "Aerotelegraph" reports, a flight captain had recently looked too deeply into the glass - with unpleasant consequences for the passengers: 18 hours delay of the flight to Honolulu and more than 600 passengers affected.
The consequence: termination without notice in mid-September
The incident was not the first of its kind. Since 2024, pilots at "Japan Airlines" have repeatedly attracted attention due to alcohol consumption, as a result of which the supervisory authority has already issued warnings. The airline itself had promised to take stricter action against violations and had introduced a watch list for conspicuous employees.
Now the top management must also take responsibility: President Mitsuko Tottori is forgoing 30 percent of her salary for two months. In addition, 36 other managers will receive salary cuts of 10 to 20 percent - including the head of security and the head of flight operations.
A clear signal that high percentages and soaring are not a good combination.
