The provenance of Hammer wines is five hectares of vineyards around Rust, where hard work in the vineyard is a way of life for the Hammer family. That work gives the wines a precise terroir-specific expression. Certified organic since 2014, the family specialises in memorable, balanced white wines with good ageing potential.
Welschriesling and Muskateller form the basis of the range, the Vogelsang, Ludmaisch and Umriss sites the solid middle, and at the top are Geyer and Chardonnay Selection as well as a cuvée of 40-year-old vines of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Markus Hammer vinifies a total of three different Sauvignon Blancs (four with the breakout), each with a precise style.
The overriding aim is reduction to the essentials, optimal vineyard work, the right harvest time and ancient techniques such as fermentation methods which bring out the expression of the vineyards.
In the red wines, three old Blaufränkisch sites, united as Rusterberg, reflect the elegance of the cool forest sites of the Rust hill country. From the Kleiner Wald site, a unique Merlot is produced with great care.
Here, wine of outstanding individualistic provenance is made at the most remarkable level.
