Perera Verde

White grape variety

The Perera grape variety is mainly found in the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene region, where it has long been confused with the Prosecco grape variety, which has returned to its original name Glera in recent years, which also applies to the Verdicchio bianco grape variety. On the other hand, the quite fertile variety often produces unpredictable yields because the vine blossoms unevenly and often causes problems. In addition, the variety is very susceptible to both variants of multi-leaf and also to golden yellowing. When affected by this disease, the leaves of the vine turn yellow at a very early stage and no longer allow for photsynthesis, which leads to unripe berries. It is not known whether the name of the late-ripening grape variety is based on the shape of the grape, which is reminiscent of pears, or on the pear aroma of the wine. Perera is not made as a pure variety, but can be added as a small component in a cuvée for the production of Prosecco in the Conegiano-Valdobbiadene region. It is also added in small quantities to the cuvée of Verdiso and Verdicchio Bianco in the noble sweet wine Torchiato di Fregona. Occurrences outside the Conegliano-Vadobbiadene region are not known.
