"Barrier-free" Wineries in Styria
Courage for innovation and attention to detail not only characterise Stefan Germuth's excellent wines, the philosophy is also reflected in the Buschenschank. In addition to the organic cheese platter, smoked fish and sheep's cheese wrapped in bacon, the pork brisket is a must.
A cosy place of power with a magical garden and a source of sophisticated, creative delights. Classics such as the runner bean salad and Mangalitza snack are just as delicious as the popular savoury Sterz with sour cream and gnocchi. New on offer are the non-alcoholic sparkling teas.
Jürgen Trummer's wines benefit from shell limestone soils, but also from the winemaker's expertise and flair - the Morillon is a must-taste! Mom provides the accompaniment from the kitchen in the form of juicy ribs and hearty snacks.
The legendary wines from Polz would be reason enough for a visit, but the wine tavern culture is also raised to a new level: the atmosphere is stylish and enjoyable, while you feast on snacks and grandma's homemade Buchteln.
This modern winery is not only visually appealing, but also a repository of flavour. Delicious wines along with homemade vermouth and juices accompany a refreshingly creative cuisine: from beef salad to char ceviche and smoked kohlrabi.
Christian Zweytick stands for fruity, strong wines, spontaneously fermented and with organic acid reduction. The menu ranges from classic Buschenschank delicacies such as game to vegetarian and vegan dishes - all presented in an extremely skilful manner.
The sustainably produced, characterful quality wines can be enjoyed with an incomparable view from the summit of the South Styrian Wine Route. Marinated raw ham platter, cheese and smoked fish are a dream; accompanied by house bread with a crispy crust.
The winery can look back on a long history. One of its flagship wines is the Sauvignon Ried Kranachberg. Spreads, raw game ham platters and juicy, lean smoked ham are just as much a part of the Buschenschank's repertoire as fish and cheese.
The far-reaching views as far as Riegersburg Castle and beyond are an attraction for guests, as are the wines produced by the family. The focus is of course on the crisp Schilcher - which goes perfectly with the fine snacks.
When it comes to meat production, they rely on rare breeds and manual labour, which means that unusual delicacies such as raw ham from zebu cattle end up on the snack plate. To drink, there are typical Styrian wines and a wonderfully flint Frizzante.
Excellent still and sparkling wines can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the steep vineyards. The gin and vermouth are also worth savouring. The creative menu guarantees delight with marinated chicken, cured venison, chilli-spiced meat, smoked fish and pickles.
The whole family helps out at this top-class tavern. Beautifully prepared sandwiches, salads and lots of creative dishes. Hot dishes such as porcini mushroom risotto, desserts and homemade ice cream are also a delight. The fine natural wines are the perfect accompaniment.
Arrive and feel right at home: This works particularly well between the steep vineyards - and it's also a great place to spend the night. The Brettljause is richly topped, the radish and scarlet runner bean salad is a classic. Michi Lorenz provides a wide range of wines.
Wine and woolly pigs take centre stage. Christina takes guests on a gastronomic journey through Eastern Styria - with bacon, salami and ham from her own Mangalitza pigs. A rosé or a Pinot Gris with a strong character sparkles in the glass.
Tradition and innovation have their place at this well-known winery, with a cosy atmosphere in the parlour and salettl. The house bread is accompanied by cheese variations, spreads and really tasty brisket, while Bernd Stelzl's wines are full of character. The desserts are very popular.
From the terrace, the views sweep over the hilly landscape of southern Styria. With a crisp Sauvignon blanc shimmering in your glass and a snack board on the table, the picture perfect postcard is complete. The desserts are not to be missed.
Just like the ambience and interior, the snacks are also carefully spiced up and served a little ‘differently’. Of course, Schilcher, which young winemaker Mathias Weber makes with great flair and which has (rightly!) won several awards, is served in the glass.
At the large winery in a marvellous location, guests have to decide on a culinary direction: The Buschenschank classics live up to their name, while the gourmet menu offers five to seven courses. A wine tasting is also worthwhile!
On clear days, the views sweep over the town of Kitzeck and the Demmerkogel mountain out towards the city of Graz. The culinary delights are also very appealing, with its in-house smoked ham, for example, as well as its classic Styrian wines - both full of flavour.
Ewald Zweytick's passion is wines matured in barriques, namely Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. His sister Astrid is the soul of the Buschenschank and spoils you with seasonal salads, spreads, pork brisket and ham from the house manufactory.
