Halloween at Blenheim Palace: What to expect

UK

Blenheim Palace, the UNESCO World Heritage site located in Oxfordshire, UK, will host a line-up of spooky events during the last week of October.

The historic palace offers a week’s worth of fun events for the whole family. Beginning on Monday 21st October, which is the start of the half-term holidays in the UK, visitors can enjoy a visit filled with spooky storytelling and games. Older visitors can enjoy the performances of axe throwers and fire jugglers in the grounds. There will also be pumpkin carving and a ghost train ride. Visitors can head to the Walled Garden to visit the Hotel Chocolat tent and Chocomobile. The luxury chocolate brand will be giving out Halloween treats to visiting children, where kids can make their own truffles and enjoy a mug of hot chocolate! At the Orangery Restaurant, special Halloween-themed afternoon tea will also be on offer. However, this requires pre-booking.

As the sun goes down, guests can stroll through Blenheim Palace’s annual illuminated Halloween trail. The beautifully decorated trail winds through the palace and grounds, littered with creepy cobwebs and corpses, spiders, a haunted graveyard and the Witch’s Covenstead, where pumpkins, cauldrons and skeletons await. Performers will creep up throughout the trail, including a headless horseman, witches and fire breathers along the way. To avoid the cold, guests can warm up with a hot toddy, toasted marshmallows or hot chocolate afterwards. The illuminated trail is one of Blenheim Palace’s most popular yearly events in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment this year. The booking price for this year’s trail is £17 for adults and £12 for children. For those wishing the make a full day of it, entry to Blenheim Palace is £28.50 for access to both the palace and gardens, however tickets for the Halloween trail are not included in this price and must be purchased separately. The Halloween activities at Blenheim Palace will be suitable for children of all ages. The trail will run each evening between the 21st and 31st of October, from 5:15 pm until 10 pm, and advanced booking is highly advised.

Sir Winston Churchill´s birthplace

Blenheim Palace is one of Britain’s largest houses and is the home of the current and former Dukes of Marlborough, as well as Sir Winston Churchill’s birthplace. The palace, which is Britain’s only non-royal palace in the UK, encompasses around 2,000 acres of grounds, gardens and parkland, which visitors can explore. The palace also offers tours, events and exhibitions throughout the year, allowing visitors to discover the extensive history and artwork within its walls. Tours take visitors into the staterooms and other parts of the building which aren’t a residence. There is also a long-running exhibition on Winston Churchill where visitors can learn more about his life and visit the room where he was born. The outside gardens are divided into both formal and pleasure gardens, where there is a maze, butterfly house and walking trails. Visitors who are only interested in exploring the gardens can purchase a Gardens & Park ticket for just £18.50 instead of the full palace pass.
