Wetherspoon plans to sell 32 of its pubs

UK

The British pub chain will sell a range of its establishments, including some in London, due to rising energy costs and staff shortages.

An increase in costs, high inflation and the historically low level of the Pound significantly impact the British pub and restaurant industry, the latest proof coming with the announcement by pub operator JD Wetherspoon that it is to sell 32 of its pubs.

The company, which runs around 300 establishments in the UK and Ireland, says it has been forced to take the step because of rising costs and staff shortages. According to a spokesman for Wetherspoon, the pubs will continue to be operated until buyers can be found.

A total of 10 of the 32 venues to be sold are believed to be in London, including sites in Holborn, Forest Hill, and Islington (Angel). Pubs outside the capital to be sold include Bournemouth, Watford and Middlesbrough.
