Which Countries Are Still Imposing Covid Travel Restrictions?
Entry requirements are still in place: what you need to know before travelling.
Although for many countries, lifting Covid travel requirements occurred many months ago, the pandemic is still prevalent in many places and therefore entry requirements are still in place.
Navigating exactly what is needed before travelling can be a minefield, so we have rounded up exactly what you need to know before travelling to any of the remaining countries which are still imposing restrictions (updated: 4 Oct 2022).
List of countries
Bermuda
Travel authorisation is required, which requires uploading a negative PCR or antigen test result from no more than 48 hours previously, as well as proof of health insurance.
China
There are currently few flights or visas available for travel to China, however exceptional cases must fill out a Health Declaration, take two PCR tests within 48 hours of travel, as well as a PCR upon arrival. This is followed by seven days of quarantine at a government facility and three more days at your own accommodation.
Cook Islands
Travellers over the age of 16 must show proof of full vaccination, meaning two doses given at least 14 days prior to arrival.
Easter Island
Travellers must show proof of vaccination (two doses), as well as a pre-travel PCR test taken within 24 hours prior to arrival. Travellers will be given an antigen test on arrival, followed by seven days quarantine.
Ecuador
Travellers must provide either proof of full vaccination, or a negative PCR or antigen test taken no more than 72 hours before boarding your flight. This also applies to the nearby Galapagos Islands.
Fiji
Travellers are required to present proof of full vaccination, meaning at least two doses received more than 14 days before arrival.
Hong Kong
Travellers must provide proof of full vaccination, as well as take a rapid antigen test within 24 hours before departure. From 26th September, visitors will be able to self-monitor for three days in their own accommodation, using regular PCR and antigen tests. During this time, restaurants, bars and attractions are off limits.
Indonesia
Travellers must provide a proof of vaccination certificate via the official Peduli Lindungi app. Temperature checks will be administered on arrival, with the possibility of PCR tests if a high temperature is found.
Japan
From 11th October, Japan will fully reopen to tourists, with no entry requirements for triple vaccinated travellers. Other visitors should either show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before their flight.
Kenya
Travellers aged 12 or over must show either proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test taken less than 72 hours before departure.
Morocco
Travellers must fill in and present a health form upon arrival.
Myanmar
All travellers are required to take either a doctor-administered antigen or PCR test within 48 hours before arrival. Visitors must also take an antigen test on arrival at their own expense, buy Covid-19 medical insurance and unvaccinated travellers will need to quarantine for five days.
Nepal
Unvaccinated travellers over five must present a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before their flight. Vaccinated travellers must show their country’s official Covid pass to qualify for a visa on arrival.
Papua New Guinea
Travellers over the age of 18 must show proof of full vaccination on arrival.
The Seychelles
Travellers must either show proof of full vaccination or show a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before flying if unvaccinated.
Singapore
Travellers must show either proof of full vaccination. Unvaccinated travellers have the option to present a negative test alongside health insurance to enter the country for a short period.
Spain
Passengers travelling to Spain from within the Schengen area are not subject to any Covid requirements. Those from outside Schengen should present proof of vaccination and complete a health declaration.
St Maarten
Vaccinated travellers must present a valid Covid pass. Unvaccinated travellers will need a negative PCR test result taken less than 48 hours before arrival.
Tunisia
Vaccinated travellers can present either proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test taken no more than 48 hours before arrival. Unvaccinated visitors should present a negative antigen test result taken no more than 24 hours before arrival.
UAE
Travellers must present either full proof of vaccination, or a certificate of recovery from within the past 30 days. Unvaccinated travellers must present a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours of departure.
United States of America
Travellers are required to present proof of full vaccination (two doses).
Venezuela
Travellers must present a full Covid vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test result from within 72 hours before arrival. If the last dose was more than 270 days previously, proof of a booster is required.
