Tel Aviv: a legendary hotel comes back to life

Elkonin Hotel in the Neve Tzedek neighbourhood reopens as part of the MGallery Hotel Collection.

It was the first hotel ever opened in Tel Aviv, boasting many prominent guests like Albert Einstein and David Ben-Gurion and was used as an office building from the 1980s. In May, the Elkonin Hotel was re-opened as a chic boutique venue featuring 44 rooms and suites, now part of the MGallery Hotel Collection (Accor Group). The hotel offers the country’s first spa by French cosmetic company Clarins and a fine-dining restaurant, L’Epoque by Robuchon.

The hotel was initially constructed in 1913 by Malka and Menachem Elkonin to create a welcoming retreat for international and local visitors to Tel Aviv-Jaffa. It was acquired in 2004 by Franco-Israeli entrepreneur Dominique Romano, who was captivated by its rich heritage and set out to revive the boutique hotel in avant-garde French style. The hotel had a soft launch in February 2023 after it had been restored by architecture studio Bar Orian, and interior design studio, Iconique.

The rooftop is elevated with a swimming pool complete with stripe tile flooring, and the Rooftop Bar, open to both guests and residents alike, serves a menu of cocktails and light snacks and features vistas of the Tel Aviv cityscape.

On the hotel’s ground floor is the flagship restaurant L'Epoque by Robuchon, seating up to 70 guests. The dining concept combines French haute cuisine with Middle Eastern influences, flavours and spices. The restaurant also offers a private dining space for up to 20 guests.

Rates at Elkonin Hotel start from $520 USD per night on a B&B basis.
