The curious case of the cat on a plane

JetBlue update cabin crew landing instructions: ‘Fasten all seatbelts and cat flaps’.

While you may expect air stewards to announce emergency instructions, flight times, or possible delays to your journey while on board, travellers on a recent flight from Ontario in California to New York were surprised to hear the following message over the intercom: “Is anyone missing cat – a grey-and-white cat?

While passengers on planes are known to leave a watch in a bathroom or lose an earring down the side of their seat, mislaying a cat is not a usual occurrence. The moggy in question belonged to Alexis and goes by the name of Brian, escaping from his owner and wandering through the aircraft before it was retrieved by a member of the crew.

The story was relayed to the wider world by Yi Shun Lai who posted a photo on Twitter of the air steward carrying the cat down the aisle to be reunited with his owner.

The Twitter post produced a response from Brian’s owner, who explained how he had escaped from a loose flap on his cat backpack before investigating his new surroundings. Alexis wrote “Thank you for all the love, he’s safe and sound but definitely not sorry.”

For those wondering how a cat could be in the hold then many US airlines charge a fee to allow small cats and dogs in the cabin provided they are in approved carriers.
