This is how Elon Musk eats

The eccentric billionaire has some unusual eating habits.

Sugar makes you sick? Elon Musk apparently doesn’t care. When a US scientist wrote about the negative effects of sugar a few weeks ago, the billionaire felt compelled to proudly proclaim on his own Twitter platform: “I eat a donut every morning. Still alive.”

Musk, who has repeatedly hit the headlines for the treatment of his employees, amongst other things, cares little for the opinions of others – and that includes on matters concerning his body, his health and, above all, his eating habits. He is as indifferent to topless pictures that circulated on the internet showing a very well-fed Musk, as he is to the possible consequences of unhealthy eating. “I’d rather eat well and live shorter for it,” is one of his quotes on the subject. He even had to take a scolding from his father, Errol Musk, for this.

Musk’s favourite foods include sushi (a handy meal for stressed-out entrepreneurs), steaks (he has been spotted in LA eating steak with Kanye West), chocolate, croissants and French pastries. He also can’t get enough of coffee – no wonder since Musk sleeps very little and keeps himself awake with it.

In the meantime, however, the Tesla boss has been able to reduce his weight – not by giving up donuts and the like, but with interval fasting. According to his own statements, he used the weight-loss app ‘Zero’; he also admitted to having a personal trainer but very rarely working with him, but at least he sometimes lifts weights and stands on the treadmill.

In any case, Musk does not follow any particular diet plan; he also eats at unusual times – quite in keeping with his investment and business style. He is as volatile in his decisions (keyword: Twitter) as he is in his eating – sometimes it’s fast food, sometimes the finest cuisine in a Michelin-starred restaurant. According to media reports, whisky is his favourite alcoholic beverage, but the native South African is allegedly not averse to wines from his homeland either. Beer, however, is probably also one of the billionaire’s favourite drinks, after all, he recently launched his own ‘Giga Beer’; in autumn 2021, he announced at the opening of his Gigafactory in Germany that he would produce such a beer, and now it can be ordered in the Tesla shop. However, this is more of a marketing stunt than a product offensive, proven by the steep price of €89 for three bottles of the limited edition Giga Beer, which is brewed in Berlin. Tesla and Musk fans will nevertheless get their hands on it.

Musk also wants to extend his investment skills to the gastronomy sector – in 2021, plans became known that he wanted to connect fast-charging stations for his Teslas with restaurants. There are also rumours of a Tesla restaurant in Hollywood that could be open 24 hours a day. However, nothing concrete has been realised so far.

Far more choosy than Elon Musk is his brother Kimbal, with whom he co-founded the Zip2 technology company. In the early 2000s, while Elon was taking off in California, Kimbal attended the French Culinary Institute in New York; later he opened The Kitchen, a restaurant in Boulder, Colorado, with offshoots of it in Denver and Chicago. Kimbal Musk is also involved in various healthy eating projects for children and urban farming concepts.
