Freiburg is a city for connoisseurs: In addition to the "Lange Roten," a 35-centimeter-long grilled sausage and Freiburg's crunchiest landmark, the people of Baden especially enjoy their home-brewed beer and excellent wines. The specialities from the wine-growing region of Breisgau taste particularly good in one of the many ostrich or broom taverns, where the producers market their products directly in the autumn and spring. Typical dishes here include "Bibbeliskäs", curd cheese with chives, "Brägeli", fried potatoes with bacon and onions, sausage salad as well as onion and tarte flambée, accompanied by the appropriate wine, fruit brandy or must.
The individualistic winegrowers' cooperatives and wineries between Freiburg and the Black Forest can be wonderfully discovered via the Baden Wine Route and wine knowledge can be deepened in direct exchange with the winegrowers.
