The Deichstraße between the city center and HafenCity is one of the most beautiful corners of Hamburg. The historic old town houses of Hamburg are lined up along a short stretch with numerous recommendable restaurants. One of these is the "Buddels" - worth a visit for the architecture of its building from 1686 alone. Here you will find Hamburg's only two-storey hallway: an impressive relic from the Hanseatic city's great trading days. In the magnificent interior with its artfully crafted wooden ceiling, you can take a seat on rustic benches at bare wooden tables. To start, there is hearty baked bread and an "egg" variation: three eggshells each contain a gently cooked egg, refined with sherry cream, paprika foam and chive emulsion. Down-to-earth and hearty: the layered gratin made from wafer-thin potato slices. A strong cheese foam and crunchy wild herb salad provide lush creaminess and fresh contrasts, while the well-cooked lamb with celeriac puree, spinach and tomato is convincing in its basic idea, but lacks seasoning, which is all the more regrettable given the high quality of the meat. To finish, there is a fantastic ice cream made from banana and brown butter. The underlying, somewhat compact blondie with raspberry would be well worth defending. Many guests like to leave it at tarte flambée or a regional selection of sausages and cheeses - uncomplicated accompaniments to the wine. There are numerous discoveries to be made on the 20-page menu with a German focus.
