Mortens Kro started as a childhood dream in Chef Nielsen's childhood home where he decorated the dining room in his parents' home for his inn on selected weekends where neighbors and family bought tickets to eat.
After training as a chef in Denmark - Chef Nielsen worked in Luxembourg, among others, at a Michelin restaurant. After winning Chef of the Year in Denmark in 1996 - Chef Nielsen opened Mortens Kro in the middle of Aalborg in 1997 - in 2021 he was chosen as the chef's chef by his best chef colleagues in the country and joins an exclusive collection of Danish Bocource d'Or winners and world-renowned Danish 3-star micelin chefs. Mortens Kro - added an exclusive Boutique hotel on the 2nd and 3rd floor above the restaurant in 2019 - Aalborg's best-rated hotel on booking.com - hotels.com and tripadvisor. For lunch, the restaurant offers modern versions of Danish open sandwiches and classic lunch dishes - in the afternoon, the restaurant offers afternoon tea and light dishes and snack towers. The evening menu has throughout the years had a common thread of Chef Nielsen - with a focus on regional produce such as west coast fish and shellfish from the fjord and lobster from Læsø which is always on the menu with a classic French cuisine style that is recognizable to the restaurant's many regular guests. Chef Nielsen's menus change 8 times a year, and also offers a vegetarian menu, tasting menu and signature dishes.
