Child friendly – restaurants in Zürich
The cooking at Rechberg is brutally local, using only ingredients that were already available in Zurich in 1837. Dried shavings become seasoning components, forgotten vegetables become the star of the evening, and the wine treasure list includes one or two Swiss trouvaille.
The terrace of Rigiblick on the edge of the forest above the city offers a wonderful view. Host Vreni Giger and her team provide a harmonious ambience and cook modern yet down-to-earth cuisine. This is accompanied by a large selection of Swiss wines.
This restaurant on the Adlisberg is a popular destination. With a beautiful view, you can enjoy Zürich specialties, seasonal delicacies and meat from the hot stone. The "Puurezmorge" made from local products, which is always available on Sunday mornings in the Kuhstall, is also great.
Even if the view clearly proves that you are in Zurich, you sometimes feel like you are in Italy at Sonnenberg. Luigi Serpe's kitchen team serves excellently prepared specialties from the "bel paese," accompanied by fine Italian wines.
The trip to the Ziegelhütte is well worth it. You can reach it from Zurich in no time at all, but it still feels like you're in the country. Here you'll find down-to-earth cuisine made from local produce with lots of vegetables and meat from the neighbour, and a surprising wine list.
The Obere Triemli has been owned by the same family since 1859 and is now run by the fifth generation with Fabian Gallmann. On the menu are traditional dishes from Switzerland, France and Italy, served in the secluded garden or in the cosy guest rooms.
Directly on the lake, the Fischers Fritz with its long tables and white parasols is almost the Côte d'Azur! As the name suggests, all kinds of fish specialties are served by Adrian Gerny, the only professional fisherman on Lake Zurich.
The green oasis in Wipkingen has become a neighbourhood eatery since it opened in 2015. Fresh, uncomplicated dishes are prepared from organic regional ingredients, some of which come from the restaurant's own garden. There is also a large selection of natural wines.
Named after the famous Bernoulli houses in Zurich West, Cucina Bernoulli invites you to chill in a cosy setting. The menu includes Italian pasta specialties, pizzas and antipasti, rounded off by the tempting homemade tiramisu.
The Freilager is a diverse place; the trattoria serves pizza and pasta, while the restaurant serves classics like the entrecote Café de Paris and specials that change monthly. The restaurant is particularly popular with families, who appreciate its child-friendliness.
In the rustic Fribourger Fonduestübli, as the name suggests, traditional cheese specialties are served. Whether Motié-Motié or Vacherin-Total, here cheese dreams are stirred in the Caquelon and smeared on the bread.
All is still right with the world here. There is, as promised, melted cheese without chichi. You can choose between a few starters: fondue Fribourgeoise, fondue Valaisanne and raclette. Accompanied by a glass of Swiss white wine or Kirsch; that's all it takes for happiness.
Right on the lake and not at all stuffy: Ziegel oh Lac is the restaurant of the former “alternative cultural centre” Rote Fabrik. Here you can enjoy fine dishes and drinks made from organic ingredients with a view of the lake, without ruining yourself financially.
